View Full Version : Good PVP Based Formation?

I was thinking of something like this
:vik::malehero::bst:
:pro::witc::can:
:exo::mnk::prn:
It seems fairly sturdy to me though turtle-ish, main, bt and witch would aoe once it's able to be used, while the cannon will put a little bit of stun pressure, while the princess would negate bows/cannon or anything trying to snipe and prophet would stop swords/spears etc.
Would this do good in PVP? And how would it fair in PVE?
Of course in time i would change these mercs when i have the money;
Viking -> Druid
BT -> Guan Yu
Cannon -> Sheriff

First of all , What is your main ?
your built looks fair to me. Seems you prefer defensive built as you can nullify most attacks by using apropriate magic and kill your opponent with aoe. Couple weak points that you can try improving;,
* your major weak point not having a healer in your team. current pvp builts have 1 or even 2 healers in them. For a team without a healer you need to kill fast and I don't see how you can kill fast with your current formation.
* your prophet won't be able to excell debuffing all melees. if you want "Concentrate" skill at 60 (or 70) then you can improve your melee debuff skill of 1 or at most 2 area out of 4. Or you can go all around. but that won't drop the damage much.
* Another thing is that current trend is either magic spike with champion, or normal spike with ranged merceneries (or both ). And usually people can remove your debuffing using their monk and empress easily.
* relying on AOE can get help you win some competition but it won't be good enough if you want to move further than Div5-6. An elementalist can be a good addition to you team if you want aoe maybe instead of a witch.
In lower divisions your build might work pretty well but as you go higher you will see that it's not good enough. For current end game in addition to your future plan I would suggest you to replace prophet with sheriff instead of cannoneer, focus on your bomb attack on princess, and exchange witch with another mercenery like elementalist (unless you plan to use mana drain) . This way you can attack aoe, keep the stun pressure and also have a chance to spike big time.

He has 4 healers. His Main, Prophet, Exo, and Princess. And How Not? Mana Pierce scroll and Scud+Meteor after can pretty much call the deal breaker.

Whut!? Since when was Prophet used for debuffing in Pvp? Shes meant for concentrate and a defensive Sniper.

Umm. When do people in his division have an Empress or Champion? And besides, if Monk HG, he can mana seal and stun with cannon.

Not badd. Elem is a certain switch in for Witch.

Well obviously, do you think thats going to be his build for the rest of his life?
Fixed it in Bold.
And the Team can work wonders. No ranged enemy is going to surpass him as long as he has Signet+Bomb and the Melee mains are weak to his AoE Spells.

You know, I'd reply to this post and give some legit infos but....I haven't played in so long I don't know whats changed. I still remember pretty much everything from back when I played though lol.

just to clarify my earlier post and to answer some questions:
1. I didn't realize the main we were discussion was staff. didn't pay attention to topic folder so yeah have to rephrase for my earlier comment for not having any healer. About scrolls it's commented a bit later, but regarding 4 healers to be honest whenever I see a team that relies on "only" passive healers in FL my reflex respond is to act as if they have no healer. This is my personal opinion though so feel free to criticize.
Also using staff main as a healer at the front is dangerous. Frontlining staff main without guarding and having no second healer kinda invites exo mana seal then spike. How this can be pulled, or how this can be avoided while keeping the staff main at the front, are another topic. it might be better to move main to back lines after couple turns or take precaution.
2. I wasn't suggesting prophet as a debuff merc, but lopolativo's exact words are "...prophet would stop swords/spears etc." So I assume prophet will have concentrate as well as sword + spear debuff magic. it might look like a good built against some who has 5-6 swords in their team :), but in general these kind of teams tend to use magic spike. thus ,even for that, better have an elementalist in team to silence them all at the same turn to force your opponent to use debuffed melee attacks. However , while being an excellent mercenery in pve, in pvp there are not many in div 3 and above with prophet. thus I would strongly suggest another mercenary instead of prophet , like an empress to avoid 4 of your mercenery being sealed by an exo.
3. Not that so many lvl 100 ish players can have champion or empress in your team but it's important to make a team that can compete with people with stronger built than yours. Afterall , currently, right when you hit lvl 111 you can get all the way to div1 if you play smart and yes, even at Div 6 -7 there is a chance to fight against someone who has champion.
4. About witch , I use it for mana drain not for meteor. Witch gives a chance against people higher lvl than mine. And yeah eventually replacing witch with a fully upgraded elementalist would be the right choice.
For sure if opponent lets me use a mana pierce scroll then I would go for full aoe but that doesn't happen all the time, not against experience pvp'ers. though, I agree, you wouldn't believe how many people even in div1 ignore a mana pierce scroll and get shutdown by all the magic attack next turn. So all bets are on :).
5. I wasn't suggesting a team that is "for the rest of his life" but a team that can compete any div1 once the gear difference is minimal without changing the main structure..
lastly , I aggre with ronyking, the team can work wonders. Once you can upgrade your main's flame blow levels and get your Guan Yu it will be even harder for melee mains to survive without continuous holy guard'ing and ranged mains to attack with their full power.
