hello :)
RE: Thread title...
i just reached the level where i could do the quest to get a exorcist. im quite not decided if i will get one or not since i am not quite fond of PvP.. more of a PvE/M type... and based from what i have seen and read in this forums (and also in the main site's forum) exorcist are mercs that really get slot in PvP builds no matter what build is used...
so are they relatively useless outside pvp? or does it still have usefulness in PvE/M?
:D

Hi,
Well, I'm a PvE fan like you, I PvP a little (and almost just in this game because it's fun) for money but I mostly do quests.
At first, I was totally against an exo but now I think he has his use. You can mana seal caster monsters, speed cast ensures you can always heal your mercs in time during a shadow or boss fight and he's a capable tank because his magic defense is pretty high (and defense's not bad either).
Only drawback : no way to hit flyers, except with mana burn, but I wouldn't advise you to take that skill.

thx for the info... so he is not useless outside pvp at all...
and i agree to the your point that he is somehow a good defensive char also.. both in def (660 is not bad) and mdef (330 is great)...
and i really love the thought of consecutive blessing of life and skills :P... life saver... XD

I love my exo in PVE. He's in my frontline and he can take quite a beating (much better than my viking). And speed cast is wonderful in PVE. I actually do suggest taking mana burn - it does cross shaped damage once he gets his 80 upgrade, and when you get it high enough, it's actually pretty powerful. But concentrate on speed cast first, with a bit of mana seal for the magical mobs.

if i were u i would take other melee's instead of exor for pve, there is just better alternative,swordman/spearman/BT/viking/LK/spartan is always better in terms of pve compared to exor,so what do u think?

I would definitly take an exo. Sure, in terms of DEF it isnt as sturdy as a BT/sword/viking/lk/spartan (tough guardian stones will help on that part) but its mdef is great.
This has 2 major benefits; not only does it take far less damage from magic hits, but he's also much easier to heal for your prophet. I had the same problem for a while, thinking exo isnt all that, but you have to look at it like a staff main... it takes more damage, but requires less healing to get back to full health.
For PvE, speedcast will help in this so your shaman/oracle will easily be able to keep up (as well as your monk btw) and mana burn is quite impressive. Sure, it doesnt seem to good at start, but remember swords give +magic so eventually it will pack quite a punch for a melee character. It will also allow the exo to try and take out low-hp mobs that fled to the back without needing to rely on ranged or your bt/witch aoe.
Cant say i know much on mana seal in pve tough...
Besides, if they were a bad tank it should show especially in pvp where exo is usually target #1. If he can keep up there, then he should also be able to handle pve.

mana seal in pve huh? thats extremely situational, and there aren't such a great number of mobs that wield staffs. however, e.g. hanging gardens, exo, with abt lvl 21 mana seal, & upgraded at least once, wouldn't miss mana seal on a single priest/oracle watever they are. means no meteor, brutal will, freeze and watever nonsense those staff wielding monster creeps throw at u.
Its like having mass silencing on those mobs.
another example is the anubis in valley of kings (and the shadow version too). necropolis have oracles & priestess that can be hit with mana seal too, and that stops the dang reviving (works with bran chamberlains & shadow bran watchers).
I can't recall that many. the above are the more commonly known ones.

my lvl 96 exor wit decent equips deals 1/5 hp on ygg mobs(lvl 100ish) lvl 40 mana burn, with a +9 magic skill sword around 49,not very impressive but still did okish...

Depending on you gold resources on ygg mobs with lvl 44 MB + Charm and Ghost sword+3 the lvl 80 one? mana burn was doing a little over 1/4 HP on stuff like jormy guards and those gnomes things. MB works its way very well into any PvE AOE build, especially since you can forgo focus on Mana Seal, mine is only like lvl 11(+charms= never miss). But again its can be a money sink so use sparingly, on a side note Guard stones gives my exo a decent lead over my BT in the def deparment, with out they seem to be on par, except for like the Hel battle for LK quest were Exo's MDef clearly shines.
Plus come on! EXO= Arch Angel Michael how cool is that? definitely beats out all the other mercs in terms of kick ass coolness.
Unless you're a staff main with at least three more staff users in your party, I'd suggest another merc for PvE. The Mana Seal outside of PvP can be cool, but only when you encounter staff mobs, which isn't all that often, really. Mana Burn can be pretty nice, but only if you focus skills on it -- which seems to be a waste of an Exo, IMHO >.>. But if you have a staff-centric build, being able to cast that Scud/Meteor Strike/Blessing/Awaken a bit faster can be advantageous, especially in dungeons where you can get mobbed.

if just for ap gain to monk or oracle to ensure use is available when needed a spot in PvE to Exo is worth it. A constant supply of awaken and healing is vital in many PvE situations.
EDIT: SpeedCast 60 everything else is secondary, can't stress this enough Speed Cast is the bread and butter of an Exo it basically makes him Akin to Paladins in other games, he takes the hits and heals his team mates.
