hello hehe :D

i just started playing AO a week ago and im really enjoying playing it... ( this is the second mmorpg that i think i'll get serious in playing after ragnarok online (pRO) )

i wanted to get help from you guys for my cannon main formation and mercenaries...

im lvl 34 right now and this is my formation right now:

:swm:34:spm:34:swm:34
:vik:34..................:gun:35
:malehero:34..................:mnk:27

all using angkor wat equip...

one thing that you might notice is that i have no shaman... i know its weird... or is it common? :P

i just did not get the thought of getting one earlier because 10k for a shaman was heavy for me at that time and eventually i totally forgot to get one :( stupid me... hehe

now i have to options:
1. getting a shaman at level 40
2. get a shaman right now and ditch one of the swordsmen...

which do you think is the better option?

and another question:
is it wise to use the enchant boxes right now? i have enchanted some angkor wat equips for my mercs and main but not all equips most are +1s and no enchants and some +2s and a very few +3s...

again, a little help will be appreciated :D and thx in advance :D

Unless you honestly feel like you're surviving battles fine right now without a healer, you really should get a shaman. If you don't get a shaman, you'll have to wait until 76 for an oracle. I really don't think it's wise to go without a healer for all those levels, and, no, your monk does not count as a healer... So, yes, get rid of one of the swords you'd probably end up ditching later for a better merc and get a shaman ASAP. You really do need a healer.

As for enchanting, I wouldn't advise buying things to enchant at your level, but if you have extra equips and enchant boxes laying around, you might as well. Just remember that it's better to have all of your mercs with +0 (unenchanted) equips than to have one or two mercs with +5 equips.

A monk's heal is almost as good as a shaman if and only if all your mercs are ranged or magic. However, you don't run an all ranged/magic build so, a shaman is recommended until you get to oracle. A shaman is a necessity especially in those nasty boss fights you'll encounter. Also, for a melee build, she serves to be a good attacker against fliers.

anyways thx for the help guys, ill get a shaman immediately when i log in... i realized it when i was in the quests in the nest of insects.. lol i overlooked the levels of those monsters, specially the fliers... so annoying, i think it was too early for me to go there XD

ok, my formation will change now that the swordsman is out of the way but i dont know which will i put in front of the formation? im thinking either the gunner or the viking... but i still cant decide

i just used some of the boxes that i got from leveling and questing... so i dont spend money for equips :D

and btw, if i recruit a wandering mercenary, what is their lvl if they decide to join me?

OT: lol i just realized im in a different timezone as you guys, thats why your replies took longer than i expected XD... and while waiting i lvled some more XD... the gunner is 38 the monk 31 and the rest 37 XD

Don't put gunner in the frontlines...She'll fall way too quickly. If you want a gunner, she should go in midline...as for the viking...he's sorta meh. Although he has high health, his defense and magic defense really suffer a lot. I believe the level of wandering mercs start at 1 or perhaps it's 10 (if the level gathered from patrols is correct)

you have almost the exact same as I did, only difference would be I had the shaman where you have the extra sword.
what might help, is the response I got on this thread 30 going on 40 (http://www.myatlanticaonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=244). since the mercs and formation is similar.
I found that after 40, I was dealing with more fliers, so swapping out that lone spear for a shaman might work.

Rght now I still have that spear, till I get the witch, and the spear will be sent to the unemployment office after I get the witch. I don't PvP with my main playing cannon, going to build one just for PvP tho here soon.
currently I look like this, till I finish the witch quest, and the formation will change again.

I have not upgraded my spearman (lv50 upgrade), since I plan to lay him off, no reason to waste gold or what ever on him since he will not be there much longer

im already lvl 39 this moment, going onto lvl 40... and ill have another slot open in my formation... so what can be a suitable merc for the 8th slot?

will i just pull back my swordsman from the merc room or get another one? from XaatXuun's thread, ppl said artillery would be a good addition...

the arty is a great addition, if I had known sooner, I could have started chaos wind on the hero sooner, but I did not, use arty for deep insight and main chaos wind.

mmm thats all I could really say, I'll let someone with more xp in the game give a better answer

maybe ill add the beast master when i reach 50... i heard it is a very long quest to do :D

@ Raznik . . I would have kept the second sword and store the spear. ( really I would not have) just I would think a better front line against melee with 2 swords then just one, I love the use of the spear (lighting strike), but there comes a time you have to decide what you really want.
There has been moments that the vik was no use at all, and there have been times spear was never needed. I do plan to get vik to dark viking, so I'll be keeping mine.
I read some where that after (I think it was) lvl 80 there were less flyers.
I'm not sure what your plans are, but mine are for and will be strictly PvE/M, I plan to create another for PvP/PK

@Ghost . . whats the reason for swapping the gunner for the Archer ? On the 40-50 build you posted

same question here, why archer over the gunner? uhmm for silence?

the princess from what i have read has a buff for ranged characters... she is like the counterpart of exorcist (spell types) and prophet (melee type)... but most if not all, says that the princess is not good... and many agree that it is the worst merc around..

maybe i could ditch the princess and go witch for AoE/Stun spread... :D

(just saw the AoE/Stun build analysis in the main site and just got pawned by 5 leopards doing simultaneous beast summons)...

i've choosed princess because help ranged units to have more survivability, i think is good in a team with many ranged, like in this case with 2 artillery + cannoner, exorcist encounter monk, so in 3/4 tourn enemy have most of the team stunned, first line must only be in guard mode (except exorcist with a mana seal every 3 tourn) at leat a prophet can be good too, but the only slot to replace i see the second arty :rolleyes:

*northen viking here, players sayed me that have better defence, maybe can bo good as tank, if not lady knight

princess = heal + more defence to ranged
prophet = heal for melee + no skills for enemy melee
exorcist = mana seal opponent staffer
cannoner + arty = stun debuffs
since with 2 arty + cannoner is better but with prophet can work good too

actually as of now im gearing for a build which can handle mobs much easily... im not quite a fan of PvP though :D... and im quite intrigue with AoE/stun builds :P

yeah I am the same way, not interested much in the PvP'ng in this game. I do plan to make another character, just for PvP tho, but pretty much low levels, like in the 20's or 30's, and just free league

Ive been playing my alts lately and not my main, so I'm a few weeks behind where I should be, all my friends are 70+, and I'm still playing around in the 50's

I was looking at that last formation Ghost posted, and think at the rate I make gold now, I would never be able to afford such a formation, but I know later I'll be making better gold.
There are so many different variables one can take, it is more of just finding that one that suits one's personal playing style.
like the gunner, do I replace with Cannon or get the Inventor, is just one of many decisions I'll need to decide later. Not to mention, with my slow rate of leveling (my choice) there may be new merc's available that are not available now. Like that Rainmaker (for one).
I have many what you could call paper napkin plans, but really only one thing/plan on the drawing board is my next 10 levels, or that merc coming available that I want to get.

at last i got my BT... only got it now coz classes resumed and i stupidly soloed till the middle... XD

now im planning to put into use the BT and with that my formation will become:

Merc Room:

the beast trainer replaces the spearman... or should it replace a swordsman? ideas?

when i reach 50 i plan to go like this

then when i get a witch.... which will be a very long time from now

is your monk using Protect or shield of Protect ?

only thing I really have a comment about is the Main monk placment. if another cannon type targets yiur monk or you, your both going to get it. I would (and do) keep my main of any line that a row or colume can hit me and monk.
I prolly would place the gunner where the main is, and place the main in where you have the gunner (wait that is how I do it )

That's it, thats all I can think of, then again I have't had any sleep, so can not really think

update... just got to 51 and nearing 52

ill immediately get an artillerist once i log into the game later this day or even tomorrow... got into a frenzy of quests, leveling and hunting for ashens got in the way of looking for an artillerist XD

if i get my artilletist, i plan to make my formation like this:

:art::bst::malehero:
:mnk::gun::sha:

once i get the witch ill switch it with one of the swordsmen :D
