Hey there. I'm new to the forums. I came here because you guys seem to be MUCH more valuable than the official AO forums. I've been casually playing Atlantica off and on for the past couple of years. I'm looking for a decent pvp build with my new staff main. I've already dumped a lot into Evan Scud. This is my current formation:

:swm::vik::swm:
:empty::malehero::empty:
:mnk::sha::mnk:

I've done some research on the current balance in the game and found this to be a good goal:

:vik::malehero::exo:
:can::witc::mnk:
:ora::mnk::inv:

I'm interested in thoughts and suggestions on DMF, the goal, and where I should go from my current formation. Thanks in advance!

dmf is not as effective as it once was. usually people today will go more spike heavy than magic heavy. Also, you are a bit lacking in firepower, and you may want to have an extra tank.

I think you have an outdated build, as this would have worked pretty well with the metagame maybe a year and a half ago.

I would replace with the inventor with a jani, the monk with an empress (or some sort of archer if you're poor) and maybe even ditch the witch for another melee character (probably spartan.) However, you could survive with just two melee, as you have 2 healers in case of emergencies.

I figured I had somewhat of an outdated build.. I started this last spring. Only got to lvl 10 when I stopped. Came back recently to a massive amount of confusion as to whether I'm on the right track any more. Something more like this?

:vik::spartan::exo:
:can::empress::jan:
:ora::mnk::malehero:

So are you suggesting I grab a gunner to eventually upgrade to jani? Also, would I eventually upgrade the Jani to a Sheriff? (I read one of your other posts). An empress is a bit away; should I hold on until I reach there or should I replace the monk now with some firepower to lvl faster? Why is the witch useless nowadays? I trust your experience much more than my outdated board sleuthing. Thanks for being so quick to respond.

In terms of expensive mercs, it would be Empress>Spartan>(if you want) Sheriff. Jani can fill the role of Sheriff until you get to like rly high pvp (div 1,2 or so) by that point, you will surely have enough money for one.

yea, because you';re no longer dmf, ditch the 2nd monk asap. go and replace it witheither a gunner or an archer.

Witches are not useless, but I personally think you needed the extra tank/extra firepower over the witch. She's pretty low on the priority list.

Thanks for the advice. I've also been told to grab a BT instead of Viking because of her tanking ability. I see so many staff builds with the Viking still. Does it make a difference?

BT vs Viking is not really a better tank. Both of them suck as tanks because they have horrible mdef. However, both have a lot of hp, viking even more so than the BT. Also, Viking has freezing axe, which is infinitely more useful than a BT.

whoever told you to get a BT over a Viking is stupid. I would take a BT over some other merc, like a swordsman or maybe a spearman, but a viking is a very very good merc to have, especially in low lvl pvp.

That's what I was thinking. I have another char with a BT and she doesn't really do much for me. The difference in tanking ability was little to none and summons are a seemingly weak AOE attack compared to other options. Should I bother with a BT at all then? I could get one in my 40s, exo in my 50s, and then a better tank at 100? Also, what do you think of the Druid as an upgrade for Viking?

The BT isn't all that bad, but I think that shes not nearly as necessary as other mercs.

And druid is a viking upgrade, but hes really really expensive. if you havethe money for him, you can get him, but i doubt you will for a longgggg time.

I have another concern. As I'm looking around at builds, I am seeing that I may have messed up with my main's skills. I already have 38 in Evan Scud. Does that mean I shouldn't save up for FB? I know I need to pay attention to Mana Shield and Blessing. I just wonder if Evan is effective enough or if I should reskill, which I know cost a lot..

well, i like to max out scud for the dmg, and imo its worth it. Then at lvl 100 i would probably get skill decrease books. I don't think it matters too much though.

I'm not a staff main, so I can't say with 100% certainty though.

Nah, that's the response I'm seeing with other similar posts to mine. It really sucks though. It's a good chunk of change that could serve well in other areas. Thanks for the response on the BT. I think I'll quickly replace her with the exo. =)
