Get Ornate Maps because they are the only ones worth the time
Old treasure maps give too many "100exp books"

You can get

3x Cultural Box
2x Red/Blue Enchant Box (adv enchant stones)
2x Red/Blue Crystal Box (dragon / phoenix crystals)
1x Warrior's Sign
1x Still-beating Heart
1x Ghost Mask
1x Gilgamesh Sword Shard
1x Gold Dragon Scale
2x Growth Potion Adv

all of which are quite profitable :D
i love the cultural boxes
just bring them to Howard to check them for 10k gold or so
if they are real he'll buy them off you for like 100k up to 3mil i heard (might even go higher but extremely rare)
i have gotten a 1m artifact at the best =P

you also might want most of the maps before you do this to not waste ornate maps =P!

wow.. i was wondering what maps give what.. since i just did the old treasure map quest.. this is really helpful, I think when i start to get more lvled I will look into searchign for the rare, and elusive treasures.. lol .. cuz it does not feel good to look at a 5 min treasure chest and realize that you can't make it no matter what you do

haha yeah some of them are quite tricky
make sure you zoom your map (top right, the + sign)
to the MAX so you are really close / accurate to your chest to avoid stealage/being on the wrong side of a mountain -______-
which has happened to me, causing a loss of an ornate chest =(!

Ornate maps are pretty useful but as Demon suggested, it would be best if you took a world tour first and grab all the town info. I have heard from one of my friends that you can also get a 7-day horse from these but haven't tried enough to know.

I never seem to have time for treasure maps. I prefer to jump around and buy them for 1k each while auto-crafting then just sell em for around 20k. Another way to make profit off them =D

You can buy them in the market, but it's usually pretty expensive. The best place to get them is from the merchants in town - the wandering people that go to a town sometimes sell items (mid growth vials, insignia licenses, ornate treasure maps, etc.) and you can buy them very cheaply (for ornate treasure maps, it's 2k each, you can buy two at a time) - but it takes you 100 will to do it. They have a limited number of them, and a limited time they stick around, too. However, you can find a town where someone's selling them by looking at the notice box above your chat box - you'll see messages like 'There is a rumor that someone in [Madrid] is selling [Ornate Treasure Map]' and if you go there and talk to the NPCs wandering around, you'll find the person.

I got a 7 day thoroughbred.
Those were from the One-eye pirate maps as part of the open beta event - you can't get horses from regular ornate treasure maps.

I do the same as axiom, just buy usful things from wandering npc and than sell them for more.. Easy profit.
The treasure map system need to revise a lot more before i gain conferedence to go treasure hunt. (I hate thief that steal ur chest!!)

the only downside of treasure hunting is waiting 5 minutes...the chest should spawn whenever you reach the exact coordinates. Or they should change the system entirely so that you're given a shovel, and you just dig up the chest whenever you reach the location.

None, now. Used to be you could get temporary 7-day mounts from event maps, but you no longer get those maps.

Also, for those of you complaining about people taking your chests - were you actually there at the time when it spawned? I haven't had a chest stolen from me yet, but I'm pretty much always there when it spawns, a few coordinates away. Just wondering how bad people are about it - it's one thing to pick up a chest that there's no one around for (you have no clue if the chest will disappear in 5 seconds, and why let it go to waste?), and another thing entirely to try and race someone to a chest they've obviously been waiting for.

I never got a mount from my event maps but got a lot of good items :) also I didn't know about stealing chest but one of the first treasures I got ( 3 cultural boxs ) was from a chest that happened to spawn near me when I was lvl 10 I attacked it thinking it was some random special spawn after I got the drops I went back to killing mobs. No one ever sent a tell or anything and I don't even remember anyone in the area either. Now that I know I always look around when I see a lone chest to make sure I won't be stealing it but I just hate to see them rot cause the person didn't have teleport or a complete map :)

Yeah it has happened to me, the only mob info I have on a chest is Samidare's letter chest or something like that in Shogun...

I got a Thoroughbred 7day mount from a treasure map before but forgot which map was it already. Currently the best drops from maps would be the cultural box. These boxes drop a random cultural assest which are worth from 200k to 3m each. However the catch is that you will have to find a wandering npc name howard and spend 10k for him to appraise your item. Note if its fake you can just throw it away. If its real immediately accept his offer and sell him the item. Earned a few million that way but seriously time consuming. Do it while you are semi afk to make the most out of the 5mins waiting time.

I was amazed that i got info on a treasure chest from the one eyed pirate maps...I was like omg IT'S A BOX! A TREASURE BOX! info consists of:A box made of wood, rimmed with metal, and lacking a lock. However, upon being crushed to bits by brutes (us players) it will give us very nice items. Ever since...i could never find the info again. The box is a lie T_T

Here's a stupid simple treasure hunting tip, make sure when you actually get to the box on your map that you zoom your mini map all the way in, if you are zoomed in and on top of the box it practically spawns in your pocket, I have never had a chest ganked from me using this method.

I always get my cordinates directly on the box.

But once I ran to Athens from Vienna I think (All the way up the penisula) And it got taken from be when it was insight...argh. Atleast I started killing sheep at level 40.

You can do both at the same time if you want to (since you get workload completion for getting exp)

you forgot to mention in the main post the Cultural boxes give some Old relics,junk items who last 24 hours,but you can go give em to an NPC named Howard if he Likes them he will buy them for 200 k or more its quite profitable for a 5 minute job if your lucky that is :)

The price is fixed. Gold-inlaid bracelets are always 200k, gold coins are always 300k, gold statues are 600k, etc.

It's what you get out of the cultural box that is random.

I love the old treasure maps, and its margin of profit. It costs only 6-10K compared to 20k for ornate maps last i checked. Though if you got small experience books, you're pretty screwed. Overall, I've pocketed few mils from those old maps.

Ornate maps are 1k each =<. Instead of buying them from players, just buy them from the NPCs for 100% Will+2k for two.

Horses are not available from ornates from what I could tell. You can only get them with the one-eyed treasure maps from Open Beta promo.

Sayw: It depends. I don't know Sikyon's prices, though in Thebes, [Adv] vials go quite easily for 100k or more. Dragon Scales are worth about 40k here, and redemption crystals...well, are redemption crystals (should have chosen phoenix though =p).

You can't get dragon crystals from the same box that redemption crystals come in. The only choices are Ashen x15, Redemption x1, or Phoenix x1, with Phoenix being the most valuable of the three.

I've listed everything I've obtained from ornate maps earlier in the thread. As for old treasure maps, here's what I've encountered:

2x Cultural Box
2x Experience Book (Small)
1x Teleportation License (Mid.)

There should be a few more, but I don't really recall any of the other items that the box yielded.

On Sikyon, it is recommended that you choose redemption crystals, as they're the second most expensive crystal at the moment.

Noticed a lot of people claiming cultural boxes are the best you can get from ornate maps.

Wrong.

The best you can get from them are teleportation licenses. These tend to sell for 1.8m - 3.8m (which no one buys, because that's insane) on sikyon. That's guarenteed, unlike the culturals, which are a very, VERY small chance of even getting a legitimate 3m item.
