I searched multiple time and could find nothing. What are the exact effects of aging on your mercenaries and your main character? My friend wants to know especially since he won't be able to play for about 3 months, and wants to know the future effects of this. And general what it is.

Well the higher level/age your mercs get the more you must pay them to get them off your team. Other than that, not sure.

There is also something like setting them free at lvl 100 and then they retire and give u quest with uber rewards... but that must be done before they turn certain age; 50something or so :P

Isn't that how you eventually get a Spartan?

No; its just one of the multiple near impossible quest to get the spartan; there's also a quest that involves a high lvl nation dungeon that gives 3x one of the needed items (which every1 will want)... this is madness

isn't making a merc independent required to acquire a quest item for pirate?

As long as the merc is on your team there's no effect, at all, of their age. There are rumors that go around that your merc will 'die' and leave you with a level one merc instead - that's not true.

However, when you get a merc to 100, you can decide to let them go off on their own by talking to Fugger (over by Madrid). The merc will ask you to do small quests for them once in a while, and send you presents when you have a high friendship with them (which you get higher by doing the quests, of course). You need one of those presents (a slightly rarer one) to do the Spartan quest and a different rarer present to do the Pirate quest. You need other stuff as well for the two quests, but that is part of them. Once a merc turns 60, however, they will retire, and stop asking you to do quests for them and stop giving you stuff.

Wow, 60? That means it's about... 1 year or so. D:

Witches have one particular skill called "Youth Drain". You can't see the skill, but they drain your youth day by day... :3

the aging only matters when you have lv 100 merc and want to make them independent......
i heard that age 60 mercs can't be indepedent....lol...
too old to live by theirselves XD...
monks are lying their ages all the time...
and witch is normal because the info said their appearance wont change regardless their real age XD

Wandering lvl 100 merc? lulz, all mercs start at lvl 1, wandering or quest, or bought. and its not firing, its "releasing". Abt witch "youth drain", lulz, no wonder my main is so much older than the rest of my mercs.

Monks don't lie! If monks lie, they will be kicked out of monkhood! :o They probably went for plastic surgery or something. :o

hmm interesting information about age. Guess it would be wise to lv the merc u want to set independent asap so you get the most out of them be4 they age to 60. another question do they age only when you log in and is part of your formation? Or they age regardless if you are log in or not and still age even in the merc room.

They age regardless of whether or not you are logged in or they are in your formation. Their age is based on what year it is in game, not what you're doing. (At least as I understand it).

Besides wondering why a Monk is that old at age 1, age means nothing.

Kiena

Except it does affect mercs you send off and give independence. So no, it does mean something.

so if mercs age based on the ingame date ... that means a merc gets a yr older every 12 days so if a merc starts at age 15 .. it will take them 1.5 years to reach the age of 60 .... guess ya have a little time to get them to lvl 100 and allow them to be independent

Hello, just wondering , after we go to madrid and letting them go free, is it possible to get them back again? or are they gone for good?
