is there a way to cancel auto cast besides decreasing skill book? Like speed cast and protect is great in pvp and boss battles but it consumes too much mana in normal battles.

Sadly you can't deactivate them. I think only in auto battle you can go under my info-skills-magic then you can select if they were to be use in auto battle mode. However never really tested that so i'm not sure if it really works. A tip is that craft some foods then make sure those autocaster like monk and exo get place near the front so that when the food heals they are healed first.

I offset their mana use with my witch's level 1 mana recharge, does wonders in pvm when i use the last few turns to heal my damaged mercs to full and then mana recharge to full mana.

Not even auto-battle will stop the passive skills from activating.

Seriously, you just need to level. At lower levels the passive skills really do eat up a hella lot of MP. However once you get around 85-90+ the amount of mana they burn starts becoming trivial.

I've yet to find a passive ability that wasnt worth having- so I wouldn't recommend deleting because low mana. Just level-up.. .mana pool gets much larger. :)

Ahh... the same old question i had before....
They make it this way so that you would have to concern about more things... and make the game more dymanic and more enjoyable and more fun and blah blah...
In other words... all skill have their pros and cons... depending on how you overcome them or cover it up...

Yeah- it all comes down to the formation you choose and which skills you pick to compliment... So hard to give advice without knowing everything about your formation/mercs. :p

Took me a while to find out that autobattle used mana as well... that was another drain on food. :(
