Wow- 11 pages... due to overwhelming responses... I can't keep up with consolidation. I'll try my best but I think you'll have to scroll all the tips. =)
1) When in a party, can use arrow keys to move the camera to see all mobs.
2) Basic Monster Info = 5% dmg increase, Location= 10%, Item= 20% and extra item drops.
3) You can train crafts when > skill level 11. At 11, can teach 1-11, 21 for 1-21, then 51 for the next tier. (Actions> Share Info)
4) Always Party = More exp and crafting books, stamina refund every 2 or 3 battles based on party size.
5) Mentors get points to buy items for apprentice level ups and 200k when they reach level 30. Many mentors gift the gold back.
6) Higher Mdef on target = more HP healed, food for thought when setting formations.
7) You can steer around mobs while auto-moving to avoid fights. (hold both mouse buttons to steer)
8) Towns have different tax rates for services- try to use towns w/ 1% such as Rome.
9) Many of the mercs you choose in the beginning stages of the game will get replaced by more powerful ones later- read up and plan around your end-game formation. This should influence your choice of hero since you can't change without a $20 cash item.
10) Banks only store gold, Storage (in Rome) is for items. You can teleport there at level 20 w/ will%.
11) You have a mailbox: Community>Mailbox. Click receive to delete mail. There may be free stuff from GM's there!
12) No need to spam in peer chat when you need training in crafts. Community> Artisan is a fantastic search tool!
13) Eat food in between battles to restore hp/mp. Less down-time = more exp!
14) Community> Block : You can add goldspammers here. (/ignore feature) Also Actions>Block on whisper tab.
15) Auto run (numlock key, btw) doesn't work in Full-Screen mode when you tab out.
16) Monks are awesome, you NEED one. Don't max Protect or SoP early levels, will drain your mana to 0 FAST!
17) Save exp books for leveling new mercs- as they all start at level 1, regardless of your level- lol!
18) The Market has a search tab under it!
19) Autocraft can be leveled up with action items. 20 workload extra per tick with each consumed autocraft: beg/int/adv.
20) Books can be exhanged via NPC Goncourt to make money, and exp books can be traded up.
21) Giving gifts to beginners gives exp to all your mercs.
22) It takes 1 minute for 10% will recharge, will costs for sharing info/crafts and tele go down as you level higher.
23) Event items like crystals and tusks are worth more than that random spammer is paying. :p
24) NPC Livingstone near Bhucarest will give you the location of any NPC in game for 1k gold, click auto-move!
25) Items for sale on market drop in price every 24 hours.
26) Need extra storage? Create an alt and mail items back and forth!

Damage increase with info? I never knew that.
The Item info doesn't always just add 1 to drop, I got a +2 resulting in 6 of a single item at times.
4)When partying, you receive more exp/craft books than you would solo
5)When partying, you get a bonus exp after each fight (cap at lvl*10)
6)Vikings drops like flies to magic and can't tank properly, despite its chunky size

There's more to choosing a main then just hitting how many and where.
I wonder how many people would have benefitted from knowing more.

Thinking of resetting my char already
when on auto follow to somewhere (or someone) you can press right click button pressed to see the outside mobs or your surrounding(useful in shadow dg).
keeping right click and left click pressed while auto follow lets u control the direction of movement with auto follow still going on.

Always check to make sure EVERYTHING is out of possession when firing a mercenary...
I had just finished doing the witch quest, and I needed to make room for her. Well, I didn't have any merc room licenses *well, I did, but I didn't know they were in the item mall pickup place*, so I had to make room for her. I chose to fire my useless archer...bad idea. After I thought I had taken everything off of her, I clicked "fire"...and she went away. And took the witch summon marble with her. *died*

2) Where did you get those 5,10 and 20% values? Game says +10% damage dealt, -10% damage received for basic info. No further increasements.
4) You don't get stamina while in long distance party.
6) It's either int or mdef, I would say it's int, but who knows.

2) those are confirmed values by DPS parsers in the last week of Beta- unless it changed for open release- they are accurate. I can't vouch for less damage taken though- anyone know for sure?
4) Less stamina drained, no one said anything about getting stam in a LDP. :)
6) INT on caster, Mdef on target is what affects heal rate. Edited original post to clarify.
Ouch on that witch marble :(
Here are a few I wish I knew beforehand:
- specialize in max two crafting skills at first, or the inventory limitations will feel so much worse
- it's advisable to bet on multiple characters in the Arena betting
- save your EXP books for when you get new mercs, can skip out their newbie days with those
- don't max Protect or SoP on your brand new Monk, or he will always be out of mana :/

2) I'll stick to what game says, until I can see the difference by myself. But for now, I never noticed further increasement. Maybe I just don't pay enough attention.
4) Why less stamina drained? It's drained at the same rate. In normal party you gain stamina thus it drains slower.
6) If you manage to check and verify that mdef is the stat that changes healing values, I, and probably many more people, will agree with you. I'll do a test by myself soon, never really bothered which stat it is.

Normal party stamina gain: if 2 people fighting with each other, stamina +1 every 2 fights
If 3 people fight, stamina +2 for every 3 fights.
Oh also things I'd would've like to known is:
You get an autocraft book at your 40's...I went and bought one and turned out to get one like 3 quests later...there went 1m -.-

I dont know how true are those % but having all the monster info def do give you a little boost. But 20% seem kinda high but it could be true.
From my experience it seem like mdef on the target helps on getting more hp healed. when i heal my front line i get around 1.3k avg heal, but when i heal my mid line or back line it tend to reach 1.6-1.8k. The only difference between them is mainly m def.
O and ouch on the Witch but thank god it is not the exo marble. That would probably make me want to kill myself.

Hehe, back in cb I was playing with my friends, we didn't get very high level (50ish) and we thought we were the shit. We joined a guild and were amazed about how much we didn't know about the game lol.
I remember talking to our guildmates and how you can exchange mercs that are in your merc room while in pve matches.
That monks were actually usefull. (at the time I never had a monk, did ok in FL)
That if you have spare boxes, you should use them on the gambler to try to get better boxes. (or buy tons of spirit boxes in hopes of getting a good box for easy profit)
That in the market, under the tabs, there's a search bar that saves you a whole bunch of time. (I'd use to look for materials and such by going through every category tab until I would find it) >.<
What suprised me most though was that autocraft had levels, from 1-100. And every level up gave you 20 extra per tic. (which then led me to beleive the action "sit" had levels, but I ended up wrong x_x)
I wouldn't call myself a pro now, but a lot more educated. ;)

2) As for sticking to what the game says- it says you can use mentor points to buy items from Pointry in Rome. Look really hard and don't stop looking til you find them, okay?
4) Read the text on the stam tab.... there is a refund of stamina 1 pt every 2 battles when partied w/ one other, and 2 per 3 battles in full group.
6) Why comment/post on something you've never "really bothered" checking?
I'm not a big flamer or troll-hog but sometimes people need a good e-thrashing.

I have few additions!
-you can exchange 20 Small experience books for 1 regular experience book at Goncourt for 2k. The same goes for crafting books.
-when giving gifts to newbies in form of gold, you get (your level)% of the gold in form of experience for the whole party. This is more effective that eating experience books as you lvl up.
-The fixed price of an equipment/weapon in market is equal to cost to make it according to fixed price for materials.
It's 20% of item's/gold's value. Max exp gained that way is 100 * lv. At some point it goes further, but I can't say when exactly and how much.
FrozenFury
11-26-2008, 12:37 AM
I have some stuff to add about will!
It takes exactly 6 seconds to recharge your will by 1%, 1 minute to recharge your will by 10%, and 10 minutes to fully recharge your will (if your max will is 100%). Thus, persuading residents or giving gifts to beginners (which both has a will cost of 100) can only be done ONCE every ten minutes!
The will cost for travelling and sharing info is always 101 minus your current level. However once you reach level 51, the will cost for sharing info stays at 50 for the rest of the game while the will cost for travelling continues to drop as you level.
Once you reach lvl 53, your maximum will capacity increases from 100 to 101 points. At level 54, max will increases an additional point (to 102). You then get an extra point added to your max will capacity every other level after 54 until you reach the maximum possible will level of 125 at lvl 100.
With will fully charged, it is possible to travel to two places without recharging a single point of will at level 51. Also at level 51, you can share 2 pieces of information (or 2 crafting lvls) back-to-back to another player without a will recharge. At level 66, you can travel THREE times without a single recharge point of will!
Also, this may seem irrelevant, but it costs 5 will to store/change members at the merc room.
HardcoreGamer
11-26-2008, 01:30 AM
It costs 5 will??? Now I wonder how come I never noticed that...
Anyway, about the exp gained throu gifts, you can only gain 100*lvl... so if my level is 50, i can only gain 5k exp?
Yes Hardcore. 5k for every mercenary.
To add 'bout will. Teleportation cost goes down to 20, and won't go below that.
@frozen add some stuff on ur mention about will
its also dont required will if you talk to the wandering merc and give him gift 1st and then dont talk just give gift :)

What do you do if you die? Or get dced in the middle of battle? You lose 10% of the gold you have on you if you die/dc in battle, but if it's in the bank you don't lose anything. And mailing it off to someone else costs the same amount of money as the 1% to put it in the bank.
And Rome will always have 1% tax on everything, because the town can't be taken by a guild. So if you're worried about taxes you can always go there. :)

Not sure that's true, not for FL or compete anyway (not tried PK... no idea about that).

To add 'bout will. Teleportation cost goes down to 20, and won't go below that.
Wow interesting. I never knew that since I never reached lv 82 on any of my characters. So lvl 81 is the last time will cost will go down for traveling. That means at lvl 90 you can travel SIX times without a will recharge with will fully charged (will is 120% at lv 90). I knew there might be a minimum will cost cap for traveling but I wasn't high enough level to reach that point.
Thanks Kode for the tip! :)

Yeah, that;s what I try to do depending on how much I deposit.
Usually in the towns with charges as high as 6%, the travel agency costs are very high too.
So it's a trade off between walking to the nearest town (wasting time) or spending money and will to get to a cheaper bank.

You can use separate accounts and characters as extra storage =x. That would have solved a lot of the inventory problems I had back in my 5/6-merc days.

Here is some stuff you might not know about battle, the hallmark of this wonderful game!
In battle, if there are more that 5 mercs with 100+ ap, the 5 mercs with the HIGHEST ap are the ones that get selected for the current turn.
You can use the g key on any merc to guard. This costs 50ap and passes his/her turn to the next available merc with the highest ap (ap must be at least 100 in order for an inactive mrec to recieve a turn).
If a merc has at least 100 ap after he/she takes the first turn, you can use g to give that person a SECOND turn!
You can use the f key to skip a players turn. This is useful if you have a swordsman or bt for example act on the first turn vs. all flyers. This action also costs NO ap, so it can also be used on a shaman (or oracle) in order to save up her ap for her healing (or will) spell or even on an axe main/viking in order to save up their ap for their freeze skill (axes and vikings have low ap regen).
You can use the a key to specifically tell the game that you want to attack. That way, you don't accidentally loot when you really wanted to attack. The s key works the EXACT same way only for looting instead of attacking.
Right clicking on a monster or an ally makes that char/merc use the FIRST skill that appear on that char/merc's skill list (which is the default skill unless you use a reset book to kill the skill off.) If the first skill on the list is passive (applies to monk and princess), that skill is ignored and the SECOND skill that appears on the list is the one that will be used for right-clicking. That means for monk and princess you can actually set the default skill for those classes without needing a reset book. Even for a class like the witch, you can have her learn meteor strike then get rid of the 1 point she has in mana drain. This makes her meteor the default skill and saves you from having to use the w key or clicking on the meteor icon to cast it.
As for number-setting the formation (ctrl + 1 through 9), I try to set numbers for my mercs that correspond to a touch-tone phone, however my main is always #1 no matter what. So if my main is in the center, my number-key formation would look like this.
5 2 3
4(1)6
7 8 9
That's all for now.

Secret tips:
- Gunner wild shot can target mob/player on second row even if their first row is still standing. This allow gunner to shift dmg focus to second row easily.
- Lvl 1 dull sword/axe/spear/bow ... works way way better than the number they listed. Use 2 ring of dull sword on a tank and you will see sword-based mob dmg drop from 400 to 100.
- If one mob is highly resistant to physical dmg, they are most likely supceptible to magic and vice versa (with a few exceptions)

Uh, no you can't. It does *damage* the second row, and at their first upgrade it'll damage the third row, but you can't target it.

More secret tips:
- If you are lvl 80+ and using power up license, don't worry if your license run out of charges. Each winning battle in FL will recharge your license by 3 (come on people, fight fight)
- Mobs tend to attack the merc having highest combo count or lowest HP %. If you wanna keep your exo alive, awaken him
- Inventor can equip bullet instead of machine to shoot
- You can move using WASD when under auto-move (very useful when you need to auto-move to a wandering NPC that is 1000 miles away, auto-move, go to town, and travel to the town nearest to him)
- Swordman are more resistant to flame type magic than any other merc (if a swordman with 400 magic def eat a flamesword for 400 dmg, an exo with 700 magic def will eat it for 700 dmg)

Good timing to get the damages in the screenshot!
Not sure that this proves you've targeted the 2nd row though. Perhaps your click on 2nd row actually activated on the first row, and the 2nd row foe had less defense or was more vulnerable to the type of attack that you used?
Have found the targeting system to be a bit iffy at times.
Can cost a bit switching positions of my mercs.

In case you haven't notice, the front row mob receive exactly 50% the dmg the second row mob receive. And in shogun castle, kagemusha (second row) is actually stronger than the spider warrior (first row)
And like I said, you can always try it yourself
- If you want to check the purpose of an item, simply put your mouse over the item in question and press "C". This will also work on monsters but you need mob info in order to do this.
- If you want to check the market rates while outside town, open your personal store ( ALT + P ), then click the "Buy" tab.
It's 20% of item's/gold's value. Max exp gained that way is 100 * lv. At some point it goes further, but I can't say when exactly and how much.
So if I have a lvl 50 main and a new lvl 20 merc, is the max exp I can get for the new merc 20 x 100 or is it 50 x 100 from gifting?
(Of course remember to send 5 times the value of the max exp gain since you only get 20% of it back as exp)

I see it's your main that's the gunner - maybe it's different when it's a merc. Because I tried it multiple times with my gunner merc and I couldn't get it to work.

Boxes
Equipment Boxes
Opening a Spirit Box will give you any piece of spirit armor or a weapon that's usable by your party.
Opening a Sea King's Box will give you any piece of equipment usable by your party.
Opening an Angkor Wat box will yield any piece of equipment (including those not usable by your party.)
Commodity Boxes
Commodity Boxes can give the following:
Flame Sword, Lightning Spear, Freezing Axe, Silence, Wild Shot, Deep Insight, Blessing of Life, Brutal Will, Hex of Darkness, Protect, Awakening, Holy Guard, Growth Vial, & Manager's Scroll (Mid only).
For Low Commodity boxes you can receive any of the above items (except manager's scroll) if you have at least 1 merc that can learn the skill and that skill is NOT maxed out at 20. There's always a chance however to get growth vials. In fact, you'll get all growth vials if all of the above books are either unusable by your party or they are maxed out at 20 already.
For Mid Commodity Boxes, you can receive any of the above items regardless of your party or your party's skill points distribution.

heres some things that i regret that no one tell me or i didnt find out earlier. (me a staff main)
1) you can use int/adv books & other stuffs (eg. vials, life pots...) even when you are at low level (merc level/skill/spell) (it helps cos sometimes the (beg) cost more O.o...)
2) If you are staff main, try to get a mana shield lvl 1 as early as possible like lvl 2 for extra xp everytime you got hit....(later you can remove it by skill decrease book if you want)
3) Do guild quests for easy enchant boxes...
4) your mercs are squishy espeically the new ones, did you use growth vials? ( yes it happens to me i forget about growth vials when got exo, prophet at lvl 80+ forgot use GV....)
5)There are boxes that give weapon equips that can be chosen and is better the random boxes at the same equip level.. eg. arusas, dark knight, osiris...
6) arena divs will drop -.- (i thought I win at 1000+ div the 1st time i bet.....)

2) Basic Monster Info = 5% dmg increase, Location= 10%, Item= 20% and extra item drops.
Is this still true? According to the notes in game it is not this way anymore.
Basic Monster Info = 10% dmg increase and 10% less damage taken from that enemy.
Location Info = Provides location info and allows you to Auto-Move to the monster.
Item Info = Provides list of items the monster drops and the probability of each drop. As well as increasing drop rate of the items.

in order to save a lot of money paying bank and market fees:
use My Store located by My Info > My Store to sell items worth a lot of gold.
And use an alt char on another account to store most of your gold on using the trade function. Note: you must be able to run 2 clients at the same time to do this.
This will save you millions, because even in towns that only charge 1%, if you're selling an item worth 100+ mil or depositing 100+ mil into the bank you're paying 1 mil every time you do that.

this image doesn't prove anything btw, because it shows you killing the front row monster, and damage dealt only goes up to how much hp that monster/merc can lose, so from this image the front row monster could only lose 465 hp and the second row monster could lose over 931 hp.
I have tried it as well and targeting skills including wild shot to monsters/mercs past the front line does not work.

"targeting skills including wild shot to monsters/mercs past the front line does not work"
That's what i thought previously.
However a few months ago the falsity of the above proved to be a major factor in my losses to a lvl 80+.
Had HG'ed my front row but my opponent was able to bypass my tanking line and use wildshot on what i thought were safe mercs/main.
Therefore I believe that you can target wildshot to 2nd row after lvl 80 upgrade?
I'm sure many ppl here should be able to confirm this, else wait for me to reach lvl 80 (may be a while) and I'll confirm.

for those that concern with relating AO time length to real world-time length;
[AO] / [real world];
1 month / 1 day
[30/24] day / 1 hour, or 30 hours / 1 hour
30 mins / 1 min --> 1 hour / 2 mins
30 sec / 1 sec --> 1 min / 2 sec
useful for those who frequent Columbus and NPC that opens at time restrictions.
note: this time length does not include Arena, FL, CL, Quest Resets and things that have been mentioned to use 'real world time'
hope this proves useful :)
