At what level is SoP effective? I know awakening should be at 11. What should Holy Guard be?
I would have a mid/back row cannon main.

get awakening high leveled, coz u will be spamming awakening later on,the small heal increment makes a big difference, holy guard isn't used as much, keep it at lvl 1 if u want, for shield of protection, its the same as trading ur monks mana for ur main's hp everytime your main got hit by EACH unit,i personally get it around at least 40,kept holy guard at 1 for debuffing purpose ONLY.Oh~ Cannon main might be target during start so getting good lvl of sop is another reason too.

I have my SOP at 21... it works really well for my build and level. The key though, is balancing the mana drain with the average number of times your main gets hit in your formation. If he's a front line, having a high SOP will leave your monk mana-less very quickly... while a back row main can accomodate a much higher level as it gets hit less.
I prefer a higher Holy Guard (25-30) for the additional heal over time since you can't target them to heal for two turns.

You need to tailor your monk's skills to your strategy. In PvM, I despise using holy guard on my front row because my main is a swordsmain and holy guard removes the Protection buff (and Protect provides a lot more healing than you think because it heals twice per turn). Ergo, I generally don't level up holy guard much because I usually only use it as a last resort. Protect heals my main instead of healing via holy guard while other mercs just rotate out of the front line if they're THAT desperate for healing and my shaman can't keep up. Of course, in PvP, I often have no choice and have to holy guard my front row because of that stupid freezing axe skill (but my formation isn't meant for PvP anyways).

What's better for 1st or 2nd row axe main? Protect or SoP?:mnk:

Protect or SoP? Seems like: Which came first- the 1st chicken or the 1st egg in the world?
I think it comes down to preference as there are die-hard fans for either. What's the rest of your formation/ what mercs will you have end-game?

I recommend splitting the points in half between awaken and holy guard. Because the row that holy guard is cast upon cannot be healed for those two turns, and any healing during that time is well worth it

*Axe Main*
This is the proposed build, though I think I might want to swap out a spear for an another AoE type, like a cannon or arty. Or is that useless?
Should I just stay with protect and awaken?
