Hi, I am a new AO player who is currently lv 71. I have encountered many of the solo bosses that people regard as very difficult, therefore must use some scrolls such as judgment or vortex... Things could not be more false. If you have the right kind of balanced make up for pve like I do, you can kill bosses easily with the right strategy instead of random left/right click on the mobs. I have successfully killed all the solo bosses within 2 trials (usually 1st kill 1st attempt) who were either yellow, orange, or red to me, indicating his superior lvl. And no I did not have superior gears. All of my gears are +2 with exception of the weapons (+3). My current pve make up is (axe main)

Here is the general strategy I applied to almost every bosses
successfully (of course, flying bosses are a little different)

First THREE turns, you wanna make sure you kill THE MIDDLE GUY IN THE FIRST ROW. This is a crucial setup. I believe I have not successfully killed the boss (unless I got lucky) without having killed the first mob after three turns. The boss could have used his devastating aoe skill or not depending but your luck but it does not really matter. You must kill the mob even if it means one of your mercs will die because of lack of heal. But make sure your viking's alive by simply moving him away to the back row if needed.

On the fourth turn, use your viking to freeze the middle row and your archer to silence the back row. I usually silence the backrow anyway regardless of whether the boss already used his skill or not because there are usually casters next to him

On the fifth and sixth turn, put out every aoe damage you have. For my setup, I use meteor strike and beast summon. Single target dmg dealer such as archer or swordsman should not use their actions ideally during these two turns. Simply switch the turns to, for example, arty or axe users to deal dmg across the row.
(Additional hint for advanced tactic: it is also very nice to establish combo hits on either the 2nd or the 3rd so they get stunned after they get out of silence or freezing)

On the seventh and eighth turn, try to use your single target dmg dealers to finish the two mobs on the first row but make sure to constantly silence the boss or holy guard the middle row to reduce the dmg. By this turn, one or two of your mercs might be dead (always for me since I didn't have great gears). Simply make sure your main and your viking are ok.

From here on out, just focus on outlasting thoe boss and the mobs if any are alive. Make sure to HG and silence to avoid heavy dmg.

There are small modifications needed for some bosses like Dracula where you need to loot right as you kill one. But if you get the 2nd row frozen and the 3rd row silenced like I suggested, you won't need to loot immediately.

There are always random factors and luck involved. Just remember you do not want to randomly attack. Focus on negating damage and dealing damage only when necessary.

That's it. Don't get scared of solo bosses!

Ok, that's a pretty good tactic, but don't forget that past lvl 70 or so (can't remember) that bosses can't be stunned, frozen or silenced.

ok, well, I could beat solo bosses lvl 60+ by my self, but face it, why spend 20 minutes whitling down its health when you can pop 3 scrolls on the back row and be done 10 minutes earlier.

And trust me, the bosses only get harder -.-

forget aztec, tiamat was hard for me :-x

lmao... same here, my boss killing finesse ended with the minotaur king... tiamat was hard for me and every other boss after XD

but i think the best tactic would be updating your merc's gear specially your frontline (+1 is ok but above is better)... and one useful tool is making your front wear damage reduction rings against the majority weapon type of the boss mob...

Or just vitality rings for all the frontliners.

currently im level 83, Ive found all bosses, other then the bosses for oracle recruit quest, up to now easy to solo. I agree with flabble, just pop a couple scrolls on the boss, make your life a bit easier :P

Psssh... Tiamat, Schmtiamat. I had trouble with Night Fox... %$@*ing Fox... I had a sadist night with him the other day when I was level 104.

I forgot all abt Nightfox till i got to vl 60... and of course their Night fox's besat summon could do nothing xD...

My build was weird... somehow humbaba hurt more than tiamat, and Tiamat's aoe was...... lame. i faced more trouble with Minotaur king though, and Tiamat was a breeze...Prepared freezing, resurrect, life blessing scrolls and nvr use em...

My build's quite similar to urs, just replace the archer with a gun, and spear with a axe... some bosses gave me hell (Cough, Dracula, cough), whilst some were simple (tiamat)...

I attack the boss anytime I can. :)
Most of them fall, leaving him dead on the ground.
Too bad it doesn't work when another monster party joins. :)

And it wont continue to work well past Oda Nobunaga when bosses start having crazy hp and super pwning nukes and sht :/

Oddly enough, I've found the minibosses more difficult than anything else so far - Minotaur for example was fairly easy, but Wolf King Paheros killed me several times. Tiamat did have her crazy AoE nuke, but she was easy compared to the lion miniboss you sometimes encounter when fighting slave soldiers.

Maybe my build is really fucked up, but even then, the minibosses seem to have much higher stats, especially HP and defenses. Weird and ironic if that's actually how it is.

Tiamat was hard (poped several vortex scrolls to take out minions and used ressurection+blessing once), but machine godness is way crazy.

I can't speak for anything over level 105 really since that was when I stopped with my older main to try out newer classes, but:

Amon
And the level 100 upgrade boss, whose name I don't recall.

Were the only two that I can say I really had issues with, Amon mostly because the rest of my mercs weren't that close to my main and poorly equipped at the time.

I don't have issues with her in terms of hardness or whatever, but I can't stand Contessa.

Tiamat was fairly easy, her AoE only does around 900. Machine goddess has a decent AoE, but her HP is sht making her very easy. Minibosses are generally just pretty easy. But then again i can't speak for much past Ygg lol.

So far for boss strategy its just been to make sure your healed before the AoE hit.
