Yes, we have refund vials, and yet we still don't know exactly how the stats work.

Str = melee damage, not much use for casters or ranged
Dex = ranged damage, dodge chance, best for ranged but useful also for melee
Int = magic damage, mana pool, not much use for melee or ranged aside from more points to use skills before running out of mana.
Vit = more health, useful to all, tho most useful to melee/frontliners.
There may be other aspects, such as Dex affecting crit chance, etc. But that give the basic idea.

I would say reset the dex since u are talking about your spear main. Chance are u will not want him to be in the front line so just to have a chance to dodge is not worth the chance to have more hp and dmg. Also spear are not know for having good dodge rate to start off with so having slightly more wont help too much either.
on a side note they gave out vit refund vial, just want to ask who in the right mind would want that? or even use it? I would assume the more vit the more welcome isnt it?
Yea - would also reset the dex, spear main need mainly Vit and Str i think. And just a bit dex, not that much.

i was under the impression that mdef of your target affected your magic damage, not your intelligence. No matter how much you buff up ur int on ur healer, ur stupid vikings not gonna get healed for much :)

It'd be nice if you provided a source that can confirm your "speculation" (mainly for the dex affecting dodge chance).

just a FYI, after you stat is refunded like dex that we are talking about, you are not guarantee to get str or vit back as your new stat. You would still have to use those growth vial and get a random stat in return. it is possible after u refund the dex u get, Int , str , vit or dex again.

If you read the dev Q&A posted... http://www.myatlanticaonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=168
STR only affects melee characters, Dex-Ranged, INT-Magic. Therefore, I would guess that high dex on spear is very bad.
I don't know where this leaves hybrids like the EXO though... =P

The Q&A is misleading. The developers state that DEX and INT have NO effect for a melee char, but we already know this is NOT true. INT affects maximum mana and magic defense for ALL characters. Ergo, it's possible that DEX affects something for ALL characters too. For example, sometimes my magic users get an extra boost in MIGHT stat whenever they get a DEX increase from a growth potion, but they always get the same low MIGHT increase when they get an STR increase from a growth potion, so presumably DEX is doing SOMETHING for them that STR isn't.

According to dev response it seems unlikely that dex affects dodge rate at least until future patches are in.

If dex doesn't affect dodge rate in melee mercenaries, then why is one of the highlights of a pirate her "high dexterity"?

We already know that dev response can't be taken at its word because it directly contradicts what we KNOW for a FACT that INT affects all mercs via max MP and magic defense AND skill damage.

AND skill damage.
Is that confirmed? I won't feel so bad about all the int on my melees if so, and maybe it's time to put int rings on for more deep insight damage?

It affects skill damage VERY slightly. I think the figure someone came up with when testing was around 64 INT for one bonus skill level (as if you read an extra skill book, which by the way is typically not that much extra damage for most skills), but it doesn't seem to be a linear equation.
