How to Counter Freezing w/o Monk

i really hate monks cuz they're so ugly, however w/o monk my front line gets raped (sumtimes) by axes >.> 1/2 the time i still kill them, but if i find a way to counter axe w/o monk, it'll b much higher :D lol

rite now i silence and freeze them asap, if they have a monk, i just apply focus a bit on the row where the viking isn't in for a while and make them waste the holy guard there

later on, im planning to have prophet w/ rusty axe, exo w/ mana seal, exo take care of the monk, prophet take care of axe, and main freeze

is there any other way?

cuz mana seal u can only use on 3rd turn by which, smart ppl would holy guard alrdy

monk is essential for pvp.. regardless of freezing axe, how do you plan on countering stun builds?

Well, you can only use 2 scrolls in a pvp match; so even if you do use purification/awaken scrolls (which cost a fair ammount, not really worth FL matches)

I doubt you can make it through the whole game without a monk. Especially at higher level matches where they focus more on DoT/stunning.

You will get raped higher levels without a monk. The no awakening thing will completely destroy you, even with a non stun build team. The scrolls are costly. About 50k each to make. And a few million to make 1 batch.

Not really, Exorcist's "Mana Seal" seals all staff holders for 2 turns.
Even though this skill is really good at countering Monk's Holy Guard and Awakening, if facing a stun build, monk is really essential. D:

I agree with the others that you should really, really get a monk - I can't imagine doing PVE or PVP without one. However, if you really don't want one, somethings you can do:

Move your people around, a LOT. It'll take up some of your AP, which sucks, but as you move people around you can break up lines that would get stunned.

Get used to having your front row frozen/stunned, and concentrate instead on getting your back rows as powerful as possible. Basically use the front row as a meat shield.

If you're an axe main, get a prophet so you get some healing and def each turn - losing that from the monk can really hurt.

And exo only seals for one of the enemy's turns, or two of yours. Seal staff lasts for two enemy turns, though - maybe that's what you're thinking of?

I've always preached that a monk is essential, but with a stun team that has an exo with mana seal, he's useless anyway because it's a guaranteed stun. Mana seal is a bit IMBA really. It's not as if prophets can completely stop a swordsman using his sword or even his sword magic. In fact shattered sword doesn't do much at all. And yet an exo can deny all staff users no matter where they sit the ability to use ANY magic, in spite of the fact that that is the main purpose of a caster.

I have to say, I have never been an advocate of diminishing usefulness on the sole reason of graphics/looks. If something works, it doesn't matter if it is ugly. But if that's how you think, purification scolls are about your only choice. I'd say just close your eyes whenever it is your monks turn, and you'll win more.

The monk seems pretty vital. I was being incredibly noobish until recently though, and didn't realize that Holy Guard 'healed' freezing axe/curses/etc. So I was actually doing alright in PvP without this use of Holy Guard for a little while, but needless to say, now that I know what it does I'm doing a lot better.

I rarely see a person w/o a monk in it team when it come to high lvl.
There is way too much thing that a monk can do in a battle that you can't live w/o one.

There is very very limited choice of not going with a monk. It is not impossible but the road is diffcult. You only option is going with scroll which some have mention is pretty expensive. Other then you would just have to plan really well how to take your opponent down be4 they manage to stun your whole team.

On a side not i wouldnt call ppl who get a monk as join a bangwagon and blindly following other as he is kinda you could say a must have. To all the ppl who go Axe main, then spear spear spear i would call that a bandwagon no offense to any one who does because who dont want a good formation. Would be silly if you dont if being top is your goal.

Well, the Monk is the only real way of preventing things like freezing defensively, so if you want to go without a Monk, you have to use offense to do it. See a viking, or something else you really don't want to cast, and kill it quick. Or just zerg lightning spears, or stun and mana seal the monk. Few different ways you can do it, but of course none of them are going to work all the time.

no it cant be done unless ure gonna have 60 burn/drain in case ure just gimping ureself by delaying meteor :S

you could change ure build slightly(although this isnt a good idea i know) to make ure frontline almost useless.
something like my sword/sword/sword.and concentrate firepower on 2nd/3rd rows.

or you could use purification scrolls(nm u continue pants crafting for us :D)

i really dont think u can counter freeze without a monkexcept these 2 :S

As a foolish person who decided early on not to get a monk, I can etll you there are areas higher up where not having one makes the game hair tearingly bad. That being said I still have not gotten a monk simply because I like my setup of:

:pro::gun::spm:
:sha::malehero::witc:

I switch out the BT with the spearman as the need arises but I have faith my second line can do enough reaching damage to stop the enemy when my front line gets frozen.

Plus with all of my mercs being 95-97 save the prophet who is 85, I have faith they have the hp to survive. Is this a feasible pvp build? Good lord no, as I have been beaten by much lower levels in pvp because quite frankly I suck at it. Buts its fun as heck if I am not facing freezing enemies in pve

countering 1 viking with no monk is doable but u need stuns and lighting spears ... whoever lots of ppl use main axe and a viking on the back row ... u cant stop that ^^

As UGLY as a monk gets, as difficult it is without a monk, get the monk now. End of story.

u can use silence on both (oponent monk and viking but mostly monk is on 3rd line and u cant silence him) but need many archers for it...and at last ..silence ending before enemy round start and then u are frozen if u dont take viking down before:)

Perhaps I'm mistaken, but can't you use dispell scrolls too? I don't scroll that much so I wouldn't know. But I could have sworn I saw someone using them in FL.
