View Full Version : Staff main skill assortment

After reading responses from my post about mains (also in Ndoor forum,) I've decided that Staff main seems to be the best to switch to (prove me wrong if you want to; I could always use some more input)
back on subject, I'm wondering what a good selection of skills might be.
I won't be staff for too long, so I won't be getting Flame Blow.
I think that I was supposed to max Scud, but what after that? If I'm in the back row, is mana shield good to have? I should put into guard dispel too (for PvP.) How much into that? And should I raise hex/BoL?
thanks.
EDIT: Also, what weapon should I be using at lvl 93? The Dez Moros staff looked good, but it gave like +10 int bonus, so it doesn't look like a good idea. I was thinking that I would get the indi dungeon staff, but i'm not sure.

I have a staff and here is my plan:
Blessing:maxed
Guard dispel:11
Scud/Flame Blow: maxed
Mana Shield: everything else (assuming vials of potential and high lvls)
I have put 11 into guard dispel, and it has never missed. I maxed my healing, but if you have another healer I wouldn't do that, the offensive spells are worth having and the oracle is slightly better. If I had it to do over again, I think I would keep guard dispel, max scud (or Flame blow), and put the rest into mana shield (I haven't used it myself, but it definitely seems like it could be helpful to have when things are down to the wire). I have thought about using hex of darkness so I can use hell flame, but i don't think I am going to keep my sword. I have seen people use hell flame, and it has done some serious damage.
I would go with which ever staff ups your intelligence the most for FL. The Dez Moros staff would probably be good for pve to help your main get more kill shots.

Hellflame vs high lvl monsters and players isn't that good (depends of course of their mdef and gear), better indeed invest in scud/flame blow.
What do you mean Flabble by "I won't be a staff main too long" ?
You just like to change or you're planning to restart as a maniac ?

The prior. I have a bad habbit of changing chars constantly. If anyone knows the game MapleStory, I never got above lvl 50, because I kept making new chars.
At least in this game, I can keep my mercs/lvl :P
Although, the main reason is that I'm trying to get to lvl 100 asap, just for the sake of getting there. I'm not starting a maniac or anything, but Musicians just don't lvl fast enough for me :-/
So, just for fun, I'm gonna try staff :-)

I am new to the staff (kinda, really new at doing it not as a healer)
maxing Scud, oh yes you want to do that . . I was looking at the skills, and comparing their damage, scud and Hellflame from the swordman, they are pretty much the same, except, that scud does it to all, where the swordmans hellflame is just one target .. nice ;)
in my lil character, I am not PvPing, I went for a PvE only formation, so my plans are a lot different to the road to 100, but there is some similarity's.
Guard dispel, go with what your used to using if you have used it before, I always seem to choose a class to PvP with that can not use it, so I am unfamiliar with it . . oh well, I blame the doctor on that one.
Mana Shield, good to have, specially if your monk is Protect, because MS works just like SoP, so it will be like having 2 monks, but you really only have the one . Since I have no clue really how much Guard Dispel is needed, here I guess is dump the rest into, I really dont have mine that high, but enough not to die, from a double AoE from Akron <sp?? Owls when I was 43, tho my whole formation died, it was then I feel in love with mana shield, and was almost going to switch to a PvP formation and get back to PvP'ng
Blessing of Life . . . get rid of it, you want scud in its place, I have a Shaman for healing, tho I did get Blessing, but just lvl 1, just to have a small back up heal if ever needed
well that is all I can say . . I am kinda like you, but I start another when current reaches 58
I am itching to start another character, but I am sticking with my plans with this one, and going to 100, my reasons . . so I can play a maniac
